The words we use, explained
Heard a term on a call or in one of our messages? Here it is in plain words.
- #AI assistant
- Software that understands plain-language requests and does routine work — drafts, lists, reminders. Ours works on your own data and waits for your approval.
- #Backlink
- A link to your site from another website. Links from trusted, relevant sites help your ranking.
- #Call to action (CTA)
- The button or link that asks the visitor to act: call, WhatsApp, book, ask for a quote.
- #CMS
- A content management system — software for editing a website without code, such as WordPress.
- #Conversion
- When a visitor does what you want — calls, sends a message or books. The conversion rate is the share of visitors who do.
- #Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS)
- Google's speed and stability measures. LCP is how fast the main content appears (under 2.5 seconds is good); CLS is how much the page jumps while loading (close to 0 is good).
- #CTR (click-through rate)
- The share of people who saw you in Google and clicked. 100 impressions and 5 clicks is a 5% CTR.
- #DNS
- The internet's address book: it points your domain to your website and your email.
- #Domain
- Your website's address, like yourbusiness.com. You rent it yearly from a registrar; it should be in your name.
- #Google Business Profile
- Your free business listing on Google Maps and in Google search: address, hours, photos, reviews and the call button. Often the first thing a customer sees.
- #Google Search Console
- Google's free tool that shows which searches you appear for, your impressions and clicks, and any problems Google sees on your site.
- #Hosting
- The server where your website lives so people can visit it.
- #Impressions
- How many times your business was shown in Google results — whether or not anyone clicked.
- #Indexing
- Google reading and storing your pages so they can appear in search. A page that isn't indexed can't be found.
- #Keyword
- The words people type into Google, for example “painter Crevillent”. SEO starts by finding which ones your customers use.
- #Landing page
- A page built for one purpose — usually one service or one offer — with one clear action, like “call” or “book”.
- #Lead
- A potential customer who has shown interest — for example by calling, messaging or filling in a form.
- #Lighthouse score
- Google's free test of a web page, scored out of 100 for performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO. Our client scores are on beems.org/digital.
- #Local SEO
- SEO aimed at searches with a place in them, like “plumber in Alicante” or “near me”. For most local businesses this is where the customers are.
- #Meta title and description
- The headline and short text Google shows for your page in the results. Good ones get more clicks.
- #Mobile-friendly (responsive)
- A site that adapts to any screen size, so it is easy to read and tap on a phone. Most of your visitors are on one.
- #NAP (name, address, phone)
- Your business name, address and phone number. They should be exactly the same everywhere online, or Google gets confused.
- #Page speed
- How fast your site opens, especially on a phone. Slow sites lose visitors and rank lower.
- #Ranking
- Where your business appears in Google's results for a search. Position 1–3 gets most of the clicks.
- #Ref code
- A short code added to a WhatsApp message from your site, so we can tell which page or campaign the customer came from.
- #Reviews
- Customer ratings on your Google Business Profile. More recent, good reviews mean more trust and better local ranking.
- #SEO (search engine optimisation)
- Work on your website and listings so you appear higher in Google when people search for what you offer — without paying for ads.
- #Sitemap
- A list of all the pages on your site that helps Google find and index them.
- #SSL / HTTPS
- The padlock in the browser: your site's connection is encrypted. Without it browsers warn visitors and Google ranks you lower.
- #Structured data (schema)
- Hidden labels in your page code that tell Google exactly what you are — a business, its hours, services, reviews — so it can show richer results.
- #Tracked booking
- A call, WhatsApp message or booking that we can count and trace back to your site or Google profile — the basis for paying per result.
